We are seeking nominations for 3 expert members for the Formulary Management Expert Committee (FMEC). FMEC is an interim committee that provides recommendations for the organization’s nonsponsored single drug reviews, streamlined drug class reviews, and therapeutic reviews, as requested by federal, provincial, and territorial governments; drug plans; and cancer agencies. These recommendations are intended to increase the likelihood that reviews across the pharmaceutical life cycle will result in system impact.
If you have significant experience working in the health care systems in Canada, are knowledgeable on the topic of health technology assessment, are interested in helping support health care decision-makers in making informed choices about health technologies, and are passionate about ensuring that the health care systems in Canada are the best they can be, we encourage you to apply. We seek to maintain expert and advisory committees composed of talented and dedicated individuals with diverse perspectives, skills, and backgrounds, and recognize that experience may be gained through a combination of activities (including, but not limited to, employment, volunteering, community engagement, and advocacy work).
The following information may help when considering whether to let your name stand for nomination to FMEC.
Qualifications and Eligibility
Expert members of FMEC shall demonstrate the following qualifications:
- a professional degree from a recognized institution in at least 1 of the following disciplines: medicine, pharmacy, pharmacology, ethics, or health economics
- in active practice and/or research in either the community, hospital, and/or academic setting
- an understanding of the use and delivery of drugs within the publicly funded health care system in Canada.
Time Commitment
Nominees should be aware there is a time commitment of approximately 4 days every other month (excluding travel time). This includes preparing for and participating in FMEC meetings, either through videoconference or in person in Ottawa or Toronto. Currently, most meetings are being held through videoconference.
Members are eligible to receive an honorarium as identified in the FMEC Member Role document. Expenses are reimbursed in accordance with the organization’s policy.
Term of Appointment
FMEC is an interim committee. Core FMEC members are appointed for a term that coincides with the anticipated duration of the pilot process. Terms may be extended at the discretion of the President and CEO.
Who Can Submit a Nomination?
