Emergency department overcrowding is increasing and worsening in jurisdictions across Canada. In response, we are undertaking an update to a series of reports published in 2006 to examine the evidence and expert-informed considerations about the causes of, consequences of, and potential solutions to emergency department overcrowding.
To enhance the quality and relevance of this work, we are seeking to engage people with extensive personal and/or professional experience with emergency department care within a Canadian health system. Specifically, We wish to engage with health care professionals who are providing or supporting care in the emergency department (e.g., emergency department physicians, primary care physicians, nurses, social workers, paramedics, administrators, leadership) and people with experience receiving care in the emergency department (e.g., patients, family members, caregivers). In this instance, we are seeking people with the ability to:
- contribute to the diversity of perspectives through awareness of others’ experiences and views within the patient or professional community (for example, experience with a professional or patient association, or as a volunteer, staff member, or board member)
- act with integrity, independent of specific interests
- work constructively as a member of a diverse team.
There are a limited number of engagement opportunities available to support this work, including as an expert consultant, peer reviewer, or committee member. The time commitment will vary depending on the role, with engagement activities expected to occur between April and September 2023. An honorarium will be provided to those selected for the project.
In addition to the engagement opportunities described here, there will be other opportunities to provide input; for example, through calls for stakeholder feedback.
If selected for this project, we will communicate with you primarily by email. Meetings are held in English through Zoom or Teams link or by toll-free telephone.
