As the number of Canadians living with dementia rises, so does the demand for dementia-related care across the country.
We facilitated a roundtable discussion to hear about clinicians’ perspectives and researchers to help develop a current portrait of care of dementia care in Canada and gain insights regarding health system readiness and current barriers to delivering quality and equitable care to patients.
The panel highlighted several themes pertaining to the current portrait of dementia care in Canada and health system readiness for future burdens of disease, including improved patient diagnosis, development of standardized and collaborative health care, increasing patient access to specialist and treatment resources, and preparing for new and effective therapies.
These insights will be available for our upcoming reviews of medical procedures, devices, diagnostics, and drugs related to dementia. They will also be used to identify health technologies and potential topics for our future work about dementia.
