2014 Maurice McGregor Award

Dr. Brian O’Rourke, President and CEO of CADTH, is pleased to announce that Dr. Yvonne Bombard has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Maurice McGregor Award, a new award that recognizes rising stars in the field of health technology assessment (HTA) early in their careers.

 “Dr. Bombard is a wonderful example of a young researcher who is a leader in her field and serves as an ambassador for health technology assessment in Canada,” said Dr. O’Rourke. “Her contributions to our understanding of the role of public engagement in HTA are critical, especially at this time when patient involvement in the HTA process is still in its infancy.”

In addition to her expertise in HTA, Dr. Bombard also specializes in the assessment and translation of genomic technologies in clinical care. Her research in this area focuses on assessing health outcomes, ethical, and policy implications of integrating personalized genomic tests and technologies into health care. She conducted Canada’s first national study on genetic discrimination and was published in the British Medical Journal.

Dr. Bombard is a Scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital and as Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management & Evaluation. She recently completed postdoctoral fellowships in Health Service Research at the University of Toronto, in Cancer Genomics at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and in Health Policy at Yale University.
