Hospital emergency departments (EDs) across Canada are under intense strain. Issues of overcrowding, lengthy wait times, and ED closures have become all too common and increase the risk of serious harm to both patients and ED staff.
In response to this Canada-wide crisis, CADTH is publishing 5 evidence reports about the trends, causes, consequences, and potential solutions to ED overcrowding. Through an assessment of the evidence and expert-informed considerations, CADTH’s Health Technology Expert Review Panel (HTERP) will also issue important guidance for decision- and policy-makers about how to identify and implement evidence-informed solutions to effectively alleviate ED overcrowding in Canada.
Join us as we unveil CADTH’s collection of work, including HTERP’s final guidance, and have an engaging discussion with a diverse group of experts who have unique experiences and understandings of ED overcrowding in Canada. During this webinar speakers will talk about the challenges of ED overcrowding as experienced by different groups that engage with the ED (patients, front-line service providers, senior health care decision-makers, and other health systems leaders). The speakers will also provide their reaction to CADTH’s guidance, talk about its potential role in Canada, and outline key considerations for decision- and policy-makers.
