There is increasing interest in the use of real-world data to generate real-world evidence (RWE) to complement evidence from randomized clinical trials for the purpose of decision-making.
Canada's Drug Agency and CIHI have initiated a pilot project to explore the feasibility and suitability of CIHI’s databases to support the Canada's Drug Agency drug and health technology assessments. The analyses of the pilot project will be used by Canada's Drug Agency to inform projects focused on the real-world utilization, expenditures, safety, and effectiveness of drugs available in the Canadian market.
Canada's Drug Agency will develop these projects proactively or based on requests and feedback from jurisdictional stakeholders (i.e., public drug plans). This collaboration will also help Canada's Drug Agency identify and develop RWE capabilities within this initial learning period.
